I was having such an interesting conversation with some fellow coaches about our receiving skills. It’s a bit of a law of attraction term but basically a lot of us know what we want, we know what we want in life and we are very good at asking for it, very good at just putting it out there and saying to the universe ‘this is what I want to create’.
But sometimes we are not very good at receiving those things when they come our way and it’s just the simple things that we are doing each day that might be blocking these skills.
For instance, one of my biggest things at the moment is actually taking the time to relax and actually receiving that opportunity to relax. So I have actually made a bit of a pact with myself that I am going to take some time out to relax each day.
I’m lucky enough to have some time and flexibility around work and family yet I can sometimes feel a bit guilty that I’m relaxing so I don’t always take that opportunity.
I have decided that’s the one thing I am really going to focus on – receiving that time to relax and knowing that I deserve that time to relax as much as everyone else.
For instance, what I tend to do a lot of the time is just busy myself. I’m doing things all day long, I’m not taking the time to relax so I have decided to take some time and see how good it feels to just sit and relax and just enjoy my time why I have it.
Now for you it could be something different that you want to learn to receive more, so it could be that you are not very good at accepting compliments so it could be that if someone is paying you a compliment you learn to receive that. It’s just noticing when people are doing it and you are kind of brushing it off. Instead, just accept that compliment and know that you are worthy of it.
For other people it may be something to do with work, so it may be something to do with others trying to give you some help and you aren’t accepting it so there might be something you want to practice there. It might seem like it’s something simple but many of us tend to just do a lot for other people so we are not always very good at receiving things in return.
I just know that even in this past week, just taking that time to relax. I’ve enjoyed a family BBQ this weekend where I have just allowed myself to sit there and put my feet up, let other people do things for me instead of me being the one who runs around after other people.
Just try it on little things that help you practice your receiving skills and just see what a difference that is going to start making in your life, because if you start practicing receiving on all of those small areas – with regard to your time, compliments, people doing things for you, people offering to take you out for lunch and paying, people just buying you little gifts, you know – any of these things where people are doing things for you or you are doing something for yourself and just see how shifts start to happen in your life.
As you notice when you are not receiving and just spend a bit more time practicing those skills and thinking ‘no, hold on, I’m going to accept this, I’m going to accept what that person’s offered me, I’m going to accept what I have committed to do for myself…
… like relaxing more and simply enjoying life!
